B2B Portal for Travel Agents: How Credit Limit Management Works

How credit limits, dues and settlements work in a B2B travel portal, and the rules to decide before you let sub-agents book on credit.

Why B2B travel runs on credit

Most travel agents don't prepay every booking. A B2B supplier, whether a wholesaler, DMC or consolidator, gives each agent a credit line, takes bookings against it and settles on an agreed cycle.

That keeps agents booking without friction, but only works if the supplier always knows how much each agent owes and how much room they have left.

Each agent has a credit limit. When they book, the booking value is deducted from their available credit. When a booking would take them past the limit, the portal can block it or hold it for approval. When the agent pays, the settlement is recorded against their ledger and the available credit goes back up.

The point is timing: the limit is checked at the moment of booking, not discovered at month-end when the money is already out.

Rules to decide before you switch it on

The credit limit for each agent or agent group. What happens at the limit: block the booking, hold it for approval, or allow it with a warning. The settlement cycle: weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Whether a cancellation restores credit immediately or only after the supplier refund arrives. Who in your team is allowed to raise a limit.

Writing these down first saves a lot of back-and-forth once agents are live.

Why spreadsheet ledgers break as you grow

With five agents, a spreadsheet ledger works. With fifty booking every day, someone is always updating it after the fact, and you find out an agent was over their limit after the booking was confirmed.

The wider operational savings of a portal, from fewer booking calls to live rates, are covered in what a B2B agent portal actually saves you.

Credit, pricing and branding in one portal

In our B2B agent portal, credit limits, dues and settlements are tracked per agent in the portal's ledger, alongside commission and markup rules by agent or agent group, under your own brand.
